La societ\u00e0, che riceve la Concessione federale,\u00a0 nasce grazie ad alcune personalit\u00e0 locali, Agostino e Giuseppe Soldati, Luigi Balestra e il sindaco di Ponte Tresa Pietro Tognetti, che in soli 18 mesi riescono a portare a termine i lavori e a mettere in esercizio la ferrovia il 5 giugno 1912.<\/p>\n<p>La stessa si rivela subito un elemento di sviluppo importante, ma vive una serie di difficolt\u00e0 economiche fino agli anni \u201950, dapprima a causa delle due guerre mondiali e delle crisi economiche generali. Successivamente, grazie soprattutto all\u2019introduzione di leggi che assicurano il finanziamento e la copertura dei disavanzi, la ferrovia \u00e8 in grado di rinnovare completamente le sue infrastrutture, anche grazie allo sviluppo del traffico passeggeri, che giustifica il suo mantenimento, allorquando altre ferrovie regionali vengono invece dismesse. Dagli anni \u201970, grazie all\u2019introduzione dell\u2019orario cadenzato, del rinnovo delle composizioni ferroviarie e dell\u2019introduzione dei distributori automatici di biglietti, la ferrovia si trasforma in un collegamento di tipo metropolitano. Il suo ruolo diventa sempre pi\u00f9 importante, anche grazie ad una miglior coordinazione con gli altri mezzi di trasporto pubblico e in particolare l\u2019attestamento delle linee Autopostali alle sue stazioni di Ponte Tresa, Magliaso, Agno e Bioggio-Molinazzo.<\/p>\n<p>Negli anni 2000 importanti investimenti permettono di migliorare sensibilmente il servizio con l\u2019introduzione dell\u2019orario cadenzato ogni 15 minuti negli orari giornalieri dei giorni feriali e con l\u2019acquisto di vagoni intermedi a pavimento ribassato per aumentare la capacit\u00e0 dei treni e facilitarne l\u2019accesso. Attualmente \u00e8 allo studio una trasformazione in rete tranviaria destinata a servire tutto l\u2019agglomerato luganese, con capilinea a Manno, Cornaredo e nel Pian Scairolo.<\/p>\n<\/div><div Presidente onorario \u00e8 Agostino Soldati, Presidente Giuseppe Soldati, con un capitale azionario di CHF 800\u2019000.-, poi aumentato a CHF 1\u2019430\u2019000.-<\/p>\n<p><strong>1910-1912<\/strong><br \/>\nLavori di costruzione della ferrovia. Il costo complessivo delle opere ammonter\u00e0 a CHF 2\u2019750\u2019000.-<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 giugno 1912<\/strong><br \/>\nInaugurazione ufficiale della ferrovia, alla presenza del consigliere federale Giuseppe Motta, dei Consiglieri nazionali Giuseppe Cattori e Evaristo Garbani-Nerini, cos\u00ec come dei Consiglieri di Stato Giovanni Rossi, Sebastiano Martinoli e Emilio Bossi. L\u2019investimento complessivo di 2.9 Mo di Fr. riguarda il rinnovo del binario, la nuova linea di contatto e l\u2019adozione di un blocco automatico di tratta, atto a garantire la sicurezza dell\u2019esercizio. Il capitale azionario viene aumentato da CHF 240\u2019000.- a 1\u2019200\u2019000.-. Cantone e Confederazione assumeranno poi nel 1976 la maggior spesa di 970\u2019000.- intervenuta nell\u2019ambito di esecuzione delle opere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1978<\/strong><br \/>\nIntroduzione orario cadenzato con corse ogni 20 minuti e rinnovo stazione di Ponte Tresa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Giugno 1994<\/strong><br \/>\nGrazie ad accordi intervenuti con il Cantone e le Autopostali, le PTT introducono l\u2019attestamento delle loro corse alle fermate FLP di Ponte Tresa, Magliaso, Agno e Bioggio. Viene pure introdotta una mini-comunit\u00e0 tariffale ACTL\/FLP\/PTT che permette l\u2019acquisto di titoli di trasporto unici per utilizzare i tre servizi in provenienza dal Malcantone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993-2000<\/strong><br \/>\nDiversi lavori di risanamento alla stazione di Lugano e lungo il tracciato.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"nav fusion-mobile-tab-nav\"><ul 2007<\/strong><br \/>\nIntroduzione dell\u2019orario cadenzato con corse ogni 15 minuti al termine dei lavori di potenziamento per l\u2019introduzione raddoppio del binario tra Magliaso e Caslano, potenziamento della stazione di Magliaso e di quella di Cappella Agnuzzo e rinnovo dell\u2019installazione di sicurezza (blocco di tratta).<\/p>\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong><br \/>\nFesteggiamenti per i
